The Museum of the Master Saddler

The Museum of the Master Saddler opened beside our stables at Corlough, Co. Cavan on 2 September 2006.  The official opening was carried out by Peter McVitty, Chair of Cavan Council.

Its aim was to highlight the skills of the working saddler and harness maker from early times up to the modern days.  It gave guided tours to various groups including Schools, Active Age, Special Needs, and Tourists.

Included in the display were my personal driving vehicles, this one being my 1896 varnished Beaufort Cart, much loved by myself and Fluffy the cat! Other vehicles were an 1880 Victorian Garden Chaise and a 1910 Governess Cart.

Although closed, several exhibits are now on display at my Harness Makers Workshop in Co. Wexford.

Outside of the Museum were a collection of farm implements several can be seen in the scrolling gallery below.  Shown here is a Farm Cart painted in traditional colours and a very rare horse drawn Water Carrier.
